(June 22, 2016): Gerry Mulligan – I’m Gonna Go Fishin’

From the 2006 2CD, “Live at the Olympia, Paris 1960.” Mulligan’s first take on this tune appeared on his first studio release with the Concert Jazz Band in 1960 — big-band music for a thirteen-piece concert jazz band. Before the year was out, Mulligan took the band on tour, culminating in the five star LP “Gerry Mulligan and The Concert Jazz Band at the Village Vanguard” recorded in New York in December. “I’m Gonna Go Fishin'” did not make it on to the Village Vanguard LP, but it was recorded live at the Olympia in Paris in November during the 1960 tour. So far as I can tell, it did not see the light of day until the recording of Paris show was released by the French label Trema in 1992. (The 2006 CD also contains six additional songs from a 1962 set in Paris).
