(June 18, 2016): Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington – The Beautiful American

From the 1961 album, Recording Together For the First Time.  Ellington and Armstrong took a long time to record together, but when they did it proved worth the wait.  In early April 1961 they went into the studio for Roulette with Danny Barcelona, Barney Bigard, Trummy Young, and Mort Herbert.  Over the course of two days they recorded 17 songs.  Ten of the tracks appeared here.  In 1963, the remaining seven were released by Roulette on The Great Reunion.
