(July 26, 2015): Arthur Foote – Ballade in F minor for Violin and Piano, Op. 69

From the 2000 album, Piano Trios Nos. 1 and 2 / Melody / Ballade.   This piece was published and premiered in 1910.  The liner notes indicate that of all his shorter works for piano and violin, Foote thought this one his best.  Even though it has a reserved style characteristic of Foote, it marked a stylistic change that includes a modal flavor.  Performed here by the Arden Trio (pianist Thomas Schmidt, violinist Suzanne Ornstein, and cellist Clay Ruede).
