(June 23, 2014): Benny Goodman & His Orchestra – Sing, Sing, Sing (Pts. 1 & 2)

From the classic 1937 shellac 12″ 78 rpm long player, Sing, Sing, Sing – Part 1 / Sing, Sing, Sing – Part 2. It clocks in at 8.43.  A shorter version was released by Goodman 1936 as a 1o” 78 rpm single (still with Pts 1 & 2). A live version was recorded as part of his famous 1938 Carnegie Hall concert.  This is one of Goodman’s first covers of Louis Prima, who recorded the tune earlier in 1936 for Brunswick (the b-side to “It’s Been So Long”).  Goodman omits Prima’s lyrics and is all out swing (not that Prima does not swing too).
