(Dec 15, 2013): Boz Scaggs – Loan Me A Dime

K-SHE Classic.  From the 1969 self-titled album, Boz Scaggs.  One of the great albums sweetmeatout of Muscle Shoals Sound Recorders.  This tune used to play on K-SHE every Friday at midnight for much of the mid-1970s.  An original composition by William Royce Scaggs, it clearly calls to mind the depression era song “Brother, Can You Spare a Dime?” done by Leo Reisman and his Orchestra (with Milton Douglas on vocals), although not as bitter.  Duane Allman appears on the LP playing Dobro and slide guitar.  The original mix by Terry Manning from Stax, which survived in the Atlantic catalogue through 1975, is far superior to the remix.
