(Nov 18, 2013): Glenn Gould – Bach: Prelude and Fugue in C Major

From the 1963 album, The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I.  While the record label indicates the title of this piece as posted, it is actually Prelude No. 1 in C Major, BVW 846. When Gould broke out the piano for the Bach repertoire in the early 1960s he initially irritated classical music aficionados who saw the harpsichord as the proper instrument for Bach’s keyboard compositions.  Gould’s talent, though, eventually won out.
