(Sept 10, 2013): Cedar Walton – Warm to the Touch

From the 1980 release, Soundscapes.  An all-star line up here.  Freddie Hubbard on trumpet, Leon Thomas on vocals, Steve Turre on trombone, Bob Berg on tenor, Ray Mantilla on percussion, Al Foster on drums, and Tony Dumas on bass.  Listening to this album back in 1980 was my first conscious exposure to Walton.  It was only later I found out about his membership in Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and associations with the bop luminaries of the 1950s and 1960s.  It was sad to learn of his death in August this year.
