(Aug 19, 2013): Groundhogs – Split-Part Two

K-SHE Classic.  Now that I am back on deck, I’ve decided that I am going to post classics sweetmeatuntil the end of August.  This is from the 1971 album, Split.  The Groundhogs started out as one of the many mid-1960s blues rock bands, but by this album the switch to hard rock was apparent.  “Cherry Red” was the more popular tune off this LP, but part two of Split (comprised of four parts and filling all side one of the vinyl record) became the underground classic.  It was one of the few songs that fit in  a larger composition that was regularly played out of context on K-SHE.  It was jarring then, but after repeated listening as a single piece, Part Two sounds like a stand alone song.
