(June 2, 2013): Rory Gallagher – I Take What I Want

K-SHE Classic.  From the 1975 album, Against The Grain.  This LP was Gallagher’s fifth sweetmeatsolo album and first with Chrysalis after a two year recording break.  “I Take What I Want” opens side two.  It has to be the best rock cover of Sam & Dave’s 1965 hit for Stax — written by Dave Porter, Isaac Hayes, and Mabon Hodges out of the Stax stable.  The song would become a concert staple for Gallagher.  It took the advent of the internet for me to be able to see it, but there is a spectacular live performance — the date is not provided — on YouTube from the old British TV show The Old Grey Whistle.  Lou Martin on keys is fantastic.  Gallagher is, well, Gallagher.
