(May 12, 2013): Leonardo Balada – Guernica

From the 2004 album, Balada: Guernica / Symphony No. 4 / Zapata.  This piece was composed in 1966 as an homage to the Picasso mural depicted on the album cover.  It is a protest against war and expresses the horror of the bombing of the Basque town of Guernica during the Spanish Civil War.  Here it is performed by the Barcelona Symphony and Catalonia National Orchestra, Salvador Mas-Conde, conducting.
