(May 1, 2013): Aaron Copland – Sonata for Piano and Violin

From the 2000 album, Aaron Copland: Complete Works for Violin and Piano.   This piece was written in 1943 while Copland was working on a score for the WWII film North Star.  It was premiered on January 17, 1944 by Copland and violinist Ruth Posselt.  It is dedicated to Copland’s friend, Larry Dunham, who killed while on active duty in the South Pacific.  It is comprised of three movements: i. Andante semplice, ii. Lento, iii.
Allegretto giusto.
