(Feb 13, 2013): Derek and the Dominos – Got To Get Better In A Little While

From the 2004 double CD, Derek & the Dominos Live at the Fillmore.  This is partial re-release of the 1973 double album, In Concert, which was the second and last LP from Eric Clapton, Bobby Whitlock, Carl Radle, and Jim Gordon.  The performances were recorded at the Fillmore East in October 1970, but the CD contains several alternative performances, including this one.  This tune is about a  minute shorter than the one that appeared on the 1973 double album and the sound quality is better.  Duane Allman was presumably too busy with the Brothers to appear and the song selection gives the album the feel of the Dominos as a Clapton band.  Still, there are transcendent moments here.  This LP and the Rainbow Concert album, which marked Clapton’s come back from addiction, were the only Clapton releases between 1971 (Guitar Boogie, a two song contribution to a compilation with Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page) and 1974 (the great 461 Ocean Boulevard).
