(Feb 10, 2013): Mills Blue Rhythm Band – Red Rhythm / St. Louis Wiggle Rhythm

From the 1936 10″ (78rpm), Red Rhythm/St. Louis Wiggle Rhythm.  The A and B sides of some hot jazz from a band that was formed in Harlem in 1930 and worked out of the Cotton Club.  It started out as the Coconut Grove Orchestra, with reedman Bingie Madison as leader. It became the Mills Blue Rhythm Band when Irving Mills became its manager in 1931.  In addition to its own work, the band played uncredited on a number of Louis Armstrong recordings and played live at various times with the Duke Ellington and Cab Calloway Orchestras.
