(Feb 2, 2013): Frank Black and the Catholics – St. Francis Dam Disaster

From the 2000 album, Dog in the Sand.  This Black ballad tells the story of the 1928 collapse of the William Mulholland’s St. Francis Dam in San Francisquito Canyon above the Santa Clarita Valley in California.  The disaster killed over 500 people and was the end of Mulholland’s career, but Black’s focus is on the force of gravity and the freed water’s natural rush to sea level.
