(Jan 29, 2013): Stefan Wolpe: The Man From Midian (Pt. I)(Cameron Grant & James Winn, piano I & II))

From the 1996 album, Stefan Wolpe/Arnold Schoenberg“The Man From Midian”  was composed in early 1942 after being commissioned by Eugene Long for a ballet premiering at the National Theatre in New York in April of that year.  The piece has two parts, with 18 scenes.  This is the first part comprising scenes 1-8.  The orchestral version of the piece was first performed by the New York Philharmonic in late 1951.  This recording was made under the auspices of the 1962 Group for Contemporary Music.
