(Jan 28, 2013): The Spencer Davis Group – Gimme Some Lovin’

From the 1967 album of the same name, Gimme Some Lovin’.  The tune was originally released in December 1966 as a side-A single (with Blues in F on the flip side).  This is one of the first songs I remember hearing when I started listening to top 40 radio (KXOK — “the Big 630”).  Also heavy in rotation in the spring of 1967 were Blues Magoos – We Ain’t Got Nothin’ Yet; Buckinghams – Kind of a Drag; Tommy James & the Shondells – I think We’re Alone Now; Turtles – Happy Together; Martha & the Vandellas – Jimmy Mack;  Young Rascals – Goovin’; The Association – Windy.  Little could I anticipate that Traffic and Blind Faith would follow.  Too bad Steve Windwood never hooked up with Jimi Hendrix like he wanted to.
