We have two selections today from Paul Butterfield, whose fantastic pioneering anticipation of blues rock is still mostly overlooked. The first tune, “Look Over Yonders Wall,” up closes out the b-side of Butterfield’s 1965 debut LP, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Elvin Bishop and Mike Bloomfield are on guitar here, with Jerome Arnold on bass and Sam Lay on drums (both of whom had been hired away from Howlin’ Wolf). Mark Naftalin is playing organ.
The second tune, “Please Send Me Someone To Love,” comes from Butterfield’s 1973 album, Better Days. The LP is the first effort following the collapse of the Blues Band. It features David Sanborn on sax and Geoff Muldaur on keys and vocals.
