(Nov 30, 2012): Steve Kuhn Trio – Lotus Blossom

From the 2007 album, Live at Birdland.  Kuhn, Ron Carter and Al Foster are in fine form on this July 2006 outing at Birdland.  Here they cover Kenny Dorham’s “Lotus Blossom”.  Kuhn, of course, played in Dorham’s band for an extended period in the late 1950s and early 1960s following Tommy Flannagan’s departure.  Kuhn’s trio has fluctuated since first established in 1968.  It has included at various times: Jack DeJohnette, Joey Baron, Bill Stewart, Billy Drummond, Buster Williams, David Finck, Eddie Gomez, Gary Peacock, George Mraz, Joey Baron, Jon Christensen, Lewis Nash, Palle Danielsson, and Pete La Roca.
