(Oct 28, 2012): Edward Elgar – Cello Concerto, Op. 85 (Yo-Yo Ma, cello; LSO, Andre Previn, cond.)

From the 1985 CBS Masterworks release, Yo-Yo Ma. Elgar: Cello Concerto, Op. 85. Walton: Cello Concerto.  Elgar wrote this concerto in E minor for cello and orchestra in 1919.  Like his other work post WWI, it is much more introspective and you can hear sadness and regret.  The London Symphony Orchestra premiered the work in October 1919 under the direction of Elgar and Felix Salmond on cello.  The four movements have an autumnal feel and I’ve always liked this around Halloween.
