(Oct 6, 2012): Leon Russell – Stranger in a Strange Land

From the 1973 triple album, Leon Live.  Recorded in Long Beach, California in August 1972, this six record LP sprawls over 100 minutes.  Booked ended by a “Mighty Quinn Medly” and a “Jumping Jack Flash/Younblood Medly,” the album almost captures the energy of the early live shows by Russell — something the studio albums of the time do not reach.  Russell released the album on his own Shelter label, which also became home to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, J.J. Cale, Phoebe Snow, Dwight Twilley, and others.
